Royal African Discoveries

  • Day 1 Arrive Cape Town

    Arrive at Cape Town International Airport, where you will be met by a Royal African Discoveries representative who will assist you to your transfer vehicle. You will be met by your driver-guide for a private transfer to the hotel. Upon arrival at the hotel, check in. Spend the balance of the day at leisure. Enjoy dinner at a local Indian restaurant.

  • Day 2 Robben Island

    Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. You will be met at your hotel for a Private Half Day Cape Town City Tour.

    • Ascend Table Mountain for unforgettable sweeping views (weather permitting).
    • Return to the city and pass through the Malay Quarter.
    • Drive past the Castle of Good Hope, Houses of Parliament and the Company Gardens.
    • Travel to Sea Point and Camp’s Bay for scenic ocean vistas.
    • Visit the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront (time permitting).

    Enjoy a visit to Robben Island. The standard tour to Robben Island is 3.5 hours long, including the two half-hour ferry rides. Ferries depart at 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm, from the V & A Waterfront in Cape Town (weather permitting). The Robben Island Tour includes:

    • A return boat trip across Table Bay
    • A visit to the infamous Maximum Security Prison
    • Interaction with an ex-political prisoner
    • A 45-minute bus ride with a guide providing commentary
    • The opportunity to explore the Murray's Bay Harbour precinct attractions, such as the Muslim shrine, or kramat, and the Museum Shop.

    Return to your hotel, the balance of your day is at leisure. Enjoy dinner at a local Indian restaurant.

  • Day 3 Cape Peninsula Tour

    Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. You will be collected at your hotel for a Private Full Day Cape Peninsula Tour.

    • Travel at a pace that allows you to explore the beauty of the Cape Peninsula.
    • Depart for the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve along one of South Africa’s most scenic routes, passing Hout Bay. Enjoy a cruise to Seal Island, to view seals and sea birds at Duiker Island (weather permitting).
    • During summer, several thousand Cape Fur Seals – along with the rare Black Cormorant – lollop leisurely among the kelp beds.
    • Travel along Chapman’s Peak Drive (conditions permitting).
    • Continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. • The scenery en route to Cape Point, at the South Western tip of the reserve, is particularly lovely in spring when wildflowers carpet the landscape.
    • The new lighthouse – the most powerful in the world – beams an electric light of 19 million candle power across the ocean.
    • Ascend to the top of by Funicular.
    • Visit the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.
    • Then drive through the historic naval base town of Simon’s Town.
    • End the day with a stroll through Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens (time permitting / optional cost). The newly completed Treetop Canopy Walkway gives visitors the opportunity to experience the forest from high above the ground. The galvanised steel structure meanders through trees and branches, with sections that crown above the forest.

    Return to your hotel and spend the balance of the day at leisure. Enjoy dinner at a local Indian restaurant.

  • Day 4 Anura Vineyards & Boschendal Estate

    Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Visit Stellenbosch.

    • The Stellenbosch wine route is arguably the country’s most famous, and the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin area includes 106 cellars.

    • The heart of the town lies amidst the oak-lined Dorp Street.
    • With its venerable old buildings, this is the University’s main thoroughfare, where modern student life sits comfortably side by side with our history and architectural heritage.

    Visit Anura Vineyards.

    • The Winery is situated on the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountains, between Stellenbosch and Paarl.
    • Its location provides Anura with a wide variety of soils, slopes and microclimates.

    Visit Boschendal Estate.

    • Nestled in one of the most picturesque valleys in the Cape Winelands, one of South Africa's original wine farms eagerly awaits your arrival.
    • With a winemaking tradition spanning over 300 years, Boschendal Wine Estate offers a veritable treat for wine lovers everywhere.
    • This gracious national treasure is a familiar favourite to many and a glorious discovery for countless others.

  • Day 5 Knysna

    Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out. You will be met by your driver & guide for a private transfer to Knysna. Upon arrival at the hotel, check in. Embark on a ferry trip aboard the pleasure boat, the John Benn (weather permitting).

    • The John Benn is a double-decker floating restaurant offering daily Lagoon cruises to the Knysna Heads.
    • A memorable family activity on Knysna Lagoon.
    • Cruise to the Knysna Heads, on a boat steeped in history, named after a legendary pilot of a bygone era.

  • Day 6 Oudtshoorn Tour

    Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Your driver & guide will collect you at your hotel for a Private Full Day Oudtshoorn Tour.

    • Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world. Nowhere else are ostriches found in such great number and nowhere else do they produce feathers of such fine quality – but the world’s biggest bird is just one attraction in an area of enormous contrasts.
    • Visit the Cango Caves, internationally renowned as one of the world’s great natural wonders, sculpted by nature through the ages. Their fascinating limestone formation occurs in a variety of ways.
    • Continue on to the Ostrich Ranch and come face to face with the biggest bird in the world.
    • Finally, end your day at the Cango Wildlife Ranch. Over 300 crocodiles, ranging from 50 cm to four meters in length, inhabit the ranch.

    Return to your hotel in the late afternoon. Enjoy dinner at a local Indian restaurant.

    Early morning wake up call. After tea, coffee and snacks your ranger will escorts you to his open safari vehicle for your morning game drive. Return to the lodge and enjoy breakfast. SOUTHERN SUN WATERFRONT:

Please be advised that there are extensive refurbishments taking place at the hotel. Care is taken to minimise disruption to guests, however noisy work will be conducted between the hours of 09h00 and 16h00. The current phase will take place until 15 December 2013 and the next phase will be taking place 10 February 2014 - 01 December 2014.

PEPPER CLUB:

Please be advised that the pool will be closed for renovations 02 June - 14 July 2014.

CAPE GRACE:

Please be advised that the hotel will be refurbishing the pool and conservatory areas from mid June to end September 2014.

VICTORIA & ALFRED HOTEL:

The 1st and 2nd floor rooms will have a refurbishment done to the bathrooms, starting 01 May 2014 and due for completion mid September 2014.

OUDEWERF HOTEL:

The hotel will be closed for the final phase of refurbishment 01 May - 31 July 2014.

KWANDWE LODGE:

Eca Lodge will be closed until 31 August 2014 for additional refurbishments.

FANCOURT:

TABLE BAY HOTEL:

The Atlantic Grill will be closed for renovations 14 June 2014 - 15 July 2014. During this time The Ballroom will be used as a temporary breakfast venue and will not be available as a conference venue during this time. The pool deck will be refurbished in August 2014.

TABLE MOUNTAIN:

Please note that the cableway will be closed 28 July - 10 August 2014, for annual maintenance.

CHAPMAN'S PEAK:

Please note that the road will be closed every Wednesday from 10h00 - 15h00 from 16 April 2014 for a period of 12 weeks.

VICTORIA FALLS SAFARI LODGE:

Please note that they will be refurbishing the rooms from 01 April - 15 July 2014. The property will be open as the work will be done per block of rooms, with minimal guest disruption.

Please note the following updates for SUN CITY:

Stricter payment and cancellation policies will be in place for any bookings over the peak period (19 December 2014 – 02 January 2015). A 10% non-refundable deposit will be applicable to secure any group bookings over these dates at the Sun City Resort. Full payment is required 60 days prior to date of travel and 100% cancellation fees will apply on all cancellations and reductions after the 60 day deadline. The non-smoking casino will be refurbished in July 2014.

Please be advised that accommodation will be blocked out due to major events taking place at the resort on the following dates:

Skouspel 04, 10 & 11 October 2014. Nedbank Golf Challenge 4 - 7 December 2014. Please be advised that the High Tea at The Palace will only be available for guests staying at The Palace of the Lost City Hotel. TSALA CRUISE BOAT RIDE around the Sun City Lake is R10.00/per person. The Cruiser departs daily at 12h00 and 16h30. Children below 16 years ride for free. PALACE TOURS will be discontinued as of 01 December 2011. THE GARY PLAYER GOLF COURSE is closed every Monday for maintenance. The course will also be closed on the following dates Hollow tinning: 01 - 05 September 2014. Nedbank Golf Challenge 4 - 7 December 2014. THE LOST CITY GOLF COURSE is closed every Tuesday for maintenance. The course will also be closed on the following dates: Hollow tinning: 22 - 26 September 2014. Nedbank Golf Challenge 4 - 7 December 2014. HELICOPTER, there is no longer a helicopter on the Sun City Resort, therefore we can no longer offer the helicopter flips as one of the leisure activities or breakfast / sundowners on the mountain.

THE PALACE OF THE LOST CITY:

  • THE CASCADES:
  • The Peninsula is not open for Lunch unless it is booked by a Group with buffet over 50 people or more.

THE SUN CITY HOTEL:

The Orchid and Sun Cafe will be undergoing refurbishments during the month of July 2014. SUN CITY THEATRE AT SUN CITY HOTEL has been refurbished and accommodates a variety of South African produced shows. Please note that the Theatre is closed on Sundays.
